Frequently Asked Questions:

What does a physical therapist do?

Physical Therapy is often the first line of conservative treatment for many common musculoskeletal injuries.

According to the American Physical Therapy Association, physical therapists are licensed healthcare professionals “who work with multiple patient populations impacted by disease, injury, and movement dysfunction. They optimize quality of life by maintaining, restoring, and improving patient's ability to move, function, and live a more active lifestyle…Physical therapists examine, diagnose, and treat individuals of all ages, from newborns to people at the end of life. Physical therapists work with patients who have injuries, disabilities, or other health conditions that need treatment. They help patients avoid surgery and prescription drugs, maximize mobility, manage pain and chronic conditions, prevent future problems, and improve physical function and fitness.” (source here)

Why don’t you take insurance?

Verifying benefits and submitting and following-up with claims is time consuming and often takes more than one staff member, which increases over-head costs and the price of PT services. With high deductible and high co-insurance plans becoming more common, Jessica felt the need to create a space where those patients can receive affordable care. This model also allows for longer treatment times and less patients per day, which often means better care for patients.

Can I submit my visit for reimbursement if I have Out-of-Network coverage for PT services?

Yes, you will be provided with a superbill that includes everything you should need for reimbursement for Out-of-Network (OON) coverage when applicable. It is the patient’s responsibly to inquire about coverage through their insurance. Payment is expected in full at the time of service, and you would then submit your superbill to your insurance. Please note, Jessica is not enrolled in Medicare and Medicare beneficiaries can NOT submit their claims for reimbursement. Please reach out with questions!

I have high deductible insurance. Will these visits go towards my deductible?

This is a great question to ask your insurance as every plan is different. With some plans, In-Network and OON expenses both apply to the same deductible. With other plans, the OON deductible may be an additional amount or separate entirely. It is worth the call to find out!

Can I make payment using my fsa/hsa card?

Yes, you can use your FSA/HSA for medically necessary treatments. Please refer to the IRS code here for more details.

How many visits will i need to get better?

This depends on many factors, including the chronicity and severity of your condition, your baseline activity level, your age, and any co-morbidities that may be contributing. While most people with simple diagnoses start to feel better after one-two sessions, several visits are sometimes required to reach goals. Jessica will discuss ways to monitor your progress and assure you are progressing appropriately in PT.

I have financial concerns with receiving care, What are my options?

Please discuss this with Jessica at your first visit. Part of her promise to her patients is that she will remain “patient-centered” and will only recommend treatment that she feels is necessary. Part of her “collaborative care” model includes helping her patients get the care they need in the most efficient and economical way possible. This may include doing shorter, less-frequent sessions with any questions answered via email or text in between sessions (when consent signed to share medical information through email and/or text). Jessica is motivated by her patients’ successes, not by financial success, and can also recommend an In-Network PT if needed.

do I need a referral from a physician?

No, physical therapists have Direct Access in the state of Ohio, which means you can receive physical therapy services without a referral from a physician. You can read more about the Ohio state laws here.

What if I have a referral from my physician?

That’s great! Jessica uses a fully secure electronic medical record and fax system so your referring physician will receive a copy of the Initial Evaluation, Progress Notes, and Discharge Summary just like traditional PT. Jessica will also gladly make any phone calls to your provider to discuss care or make recommendations as needed.

Do you accept payment plans?

No, payment is expected in full at the time of treatment. A few minutes will be taken at the end of each session to accept payment. Payments can be made by FSA/HSA, check, or credit card (Visa, Visa Debit, MasterCard, Debit MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, and UnionPay.)

I am a parent and do not have childcare. Can I bring my children with me to my appointment?

Yes! Jessica understands how difficult it can be to be a parent, and your children are welcome to come to any appointment. She will do everything she can to make them feel comfortable.

I still have questions, can I reach out to see if you have experience treating my condition before I schedule?

Absolutely! You can reach out by email or by phone. Your email or call should be returned within 24-48 hours.

Are there any conditions you don’t treat?

Yes, Jessica specializes in orthopedics and does not treat patients with significant neurological conditions (stroke, spinal cord injuries, etc). She also does not treat the hand (typically an Occupational Therapist or Certified Hand Therapist does this) or specialize in pediatrics, although she feels comfortable treating some conditions in children 12 or older. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

What is the clinic like?

Jessica likes to call her space small but mighty. Her primary treatment room is private and has plenty of space and equipment to address most needs. She also has access to a gym down the hall that has more cardiovascular and strength-training equipment if needed. Of note, this gym is public although very seldomly occupied.
